For more than two decades, I’ve had the privilege of leading and serving organizations across higher education, government, healthcare, and the nonprofit sector. I’ve worked alongside people deeply committed to their missions, often navigating extraordinary expectations with limited resources and difficult choices.
Across these experiences, I began to recognize a troubling pattern.
Organizations would invest in new strategies, recruit talented people, restructure operations, and introduce promising technologies. Progress would follow. Yet, over time, many of the same challenges would resurface.
I came to question something we often take for granted: What if the problem isn’t simply what organizations are doing, but the conditions shaping what they are capable of becoming?
That question changed how I understood leadership and transformation.
I learned that even the most committed people can struggle within systems that no longer serve their purpose. And that meaningful progress requires more than changing policies, structures, or technologies. It requires the willingness to examine our assumptions, confront familiar patterns, and reconsider how people, power, resources, and decisions come together.
These insights, informed by my scholarship and executive practice, gave rise to the T.H.R.E.A.D. System™.

You are not here to be judged, labeled, or told who you should become. You are invited to become curious about what has shaped you, what matters to you now, and what might be possible from here.
You don’t need to have all the answers. You can begin with the question that’s on your heart or mind.

We don’t enter each new experience with a blank slate. We bring what we’ve lived, what we’ve learned to expect, and the ways we’ve learned to protect, connect, decide, and move forward. Some responses have served us well. Others may have become so familiar that we no longer notice when or why we rely on them.
We may keep saying yes when we want to say no, hold on to something long after it has stopped working, or avoid a conversation we know matters.
The question isn’t simply, “What’s happening to me?” It’s also:

Begin with what’s happening in your life right now. What brought you here? What feels unsettled, important, or unfinished? What outcome are you hoping for? You may discover that the question you came with is only part of what deserves your attention.
Through reflective questions and paired comparisons, you’ll explore how you tend to think, respond, seek support, approach change, and make choices. Not every pattern needs to be released. Some deserve to be recognized and carried forward.
Your reflection profile connects what you’ve shared with relevant practices from THE T.H.R.E.A.D. System™: what you want to create, what practice might support you, and one meaningful action you can explore.
Sometimes a different future begins with one choice made with greater awareness.
There is no single way to navigate every challenge or create every desired outcome. THE T.H.R.E.A.D. System™ offers six interconnected practices you can draw upon as your circumstances and understanding change.
These are not personality types, labels, or fixed stages of development. They are practices you can return to, combine, and explore as new circumstances emerge.

The Check-In is being prepared as a guided experience built around your responses and the moment you are navigating. There are no right or wrong answers. You’re invited to reflect on your actual experiences, not the person you wish you were. Take your time. Notice what stands out.
Your responses offer a starting point for reflection, not a complete or definitive picture of who you are.
When you complete the Check-In, the planned experience includes your T.H.R.E.A.D. Response & Transformation Profile™, organized into three parts.

The six practices mirror the work of quilting
Select a patch.
A quilt is not built from perfect pieces. It is formed from what exists: fragments, history, inheritance, necessity, creativity, and intention. The thread is what binds these parts into a coherent pattern.
“The language of thread, quilt, pattern, and weaving in this framework is not decorative. It is epistemological.” The framework draws on quilting traditions of women of the African diaspora and the Caribbean as carriers of memory, identity, artistry, survival, kinship, and cultural meaning across generations.
The framework was developed through autoethnographic practitioner inquiry: more than two decades of executive leadership across higher education, public systems, nonprofits, and workforce and community work, examined systematically and tested against established research.
A structured reflexive method that renders visible the seams of the inquiry, so the author’s interpretation is examined rather than assumed.
Our claim, stated plainly. Executive practice does not replace randomized study. The journal presents disciplined practice as a legitimate and distinctive form of evidence, and sets out a research agenda to test the framework further.

Pressure enters a person, team, organization, or community: a leadership transition, a funding shift, an enrollment decline, a new technology, a public moment.

Interdependent and non-linear: enter at any practice, return as new patterns surface, or work several at once. Locate inward. Assess backward. Decide outward. Act forward.
Since Issue One was published, two movements have been named within these four: Downward, within the Backward movement, for Release Patterns, and Upward, within the Forward movement, for Adopt Change. Harvest Wisdom remains Backward, and Design Wholeness remains Forward.

For the system that keeps producing the same results
Organizations use the practices to diagnose what their systems keep producing, then redesign the structures, decisions, incentives, and routines that hold the old pattern in place.
For the place where people live and grow
Communities use the practices to bring what has become fragmented back into relationship, through The Thread Movement, W.A.I.T.™, and FutureWoven™ for young people.
The system tells one story while operating from another.
It may proclaim trust while keeping decisions opaque, claim to be innovative while punishing risk, claim inclusion while concentrating authority, or claim transformation while preserving the incentives that maintain the old pattern.
Conscious response
Names the issue, examines evidence, tests assumptions, and supports deliberate choice. It expands capacity for judgment, learning, collaboration, redesign, and implementation.
Unconscious protective response
Protects authority, belonging, competence, control, identity, legitimacy, or survival before the threat is fully conscious. In this sense, unconscious protection can appear as competence.
The framework’s contribution lies in the disciplined sequencing of established organizational and developmental insights into a practical, usable architecture.

Dr. Leonie H. Mattison has spent more than two decades leading institutions built to change lives, across higher education, government, public health, and human services, including as a college president and CEO. Yet the more responsibility she held, the more she confronted a difficult question: why were institutions devoted to transformation so often struggling to transform themselves?
She saw the answer from the inside, leading organizations through economic crisis, public health transformation, natural disaster, pandemic, and institutional turnaround. Different sectors, different pressures, same pattern. Many were still operating through systems, practices, and assumptions designed for a world that no longer exists. They were asking people to change, adapt, and grow while the institutions around them remained largely unchanged. Under pressure, leaders and organizations returned to familiar ways of thinking, deciding, and responding, even when those patterns no longer produced what they needed.
That insight led Dr. Mattison to develop The T.H.R.E.A.D. System™, a framework that equips leaders and institutions to recognize the patterns beneath their most persistent challenges and build the capacity to respond differently. Rooted in lessons from her grandmother in Jamaica, a quilter who taught her that every pattern carries a history and every thread holds tension, the system rests on a clear premise: pressure reveals patterns, and once a pattern can be seen, a different pathway can be chosen.
What began as a discipline forged through decades of leading institutions through complexity has grown into THE THREAD, a practice, movement, and learning ecosystem for intentional transformation. Between two worlds, an early lesson took shape: identity does not have to disappear in transition. It can be rewoven. The move from Jamaica to New York became a first threshold, and an encounter with the tension between what we inherit, what we leave behind, and what we choose to become. Becoming the first in the family to graduate from college turned that lesson into a lived pathway. Chapter II2000s
Public health systems confront new pressures, the nation responds to September 11, and the 2008 financial crisis destabilizes communities and institutions.
Across public health, economic development, and government, leadership meant entering systems under strain. The work included supporting public health transformation in New York City, including the transition of fiscal functions to a nonprofit partner, and navigating economic development through the financial crisis. Different sectors. Different crises. The same dynamic kept appearing: pressure did not create the pattern; it revealed what the system had been carrying all along.

Chapter IIIMid-2000s
Social media emerges, information accelerates, and the pace of change begins to outrun the institutions built to contain it.
The questions being asked of organizations eventually turned inward. Lived experience became a site of inquiry, asking not only what needed to change, but what recurring patterns pressure was revealing. What emerged was not a management theory. It was six symbols, arising from a profound season of personal transformation. Each pointed toward a movement of the psyche, and eventually of systems: thinking, remembering, releasing, connecting, practicing, and creating. Those insights became the six practices of The T.H.R.E.A.D. System™, a framework later taught and applied across sectors.

Chapter IV2011 · New York to California
Scientific innovation accelerates while communities confront persistent gaps in health, employment, and economic mobility.
A second crossing created another threshold. The Thread, LLC was established, giving the emerging work its first organizational container. In California, the work expanded through diabetes clinical research and then into organizational and workforce development for the County of Santa Barbara, including workforce systems for 4,600 employees across 23 departments after the Thomas Fire and mudslides. Another tension became visible: innovation could move quickly, while the human systems responsible for carrying it forward often could not. Transformation required more than new ideas. It required new capacity.

Chapter V2018 to 2021
Women challenge long-standing systems of power through #MeToo, Santa Barbara rebuilds after catastrophic fire and mudslides, and a global pandemic disrupts how communities live, work, and connect.
The practices began moving from one life into many. The Thread Movement emerged in Santa Barbara County, followed by The Thread Collection, a faith-rooted body of work for women. More than 1,000 books carried the practices into correctional and community settings, and 72 women moved through W.A.I.T.™ as a structured journey of reflection and transformation. As executive responsibility expanded into human services through the pandemic, across more than 20 sites and 16 core programs, traditional systems of gathering, service delivery, and learning fractured. The work moved again. The Thread Institute began taking shape as a vehicle for extending transformation through learning, development, and wider access.

Chapter VI2022 to 2025
Higher education confronts post-pandemic disruption, demographic pressure, workforce upheaval, declining public confidence, and the arrival of generative AI.
The work then faced its most consequential test: the presidency of a graduate institution navigating significant organizational change. Strategy, governance, accreditation, finance, enrollment, faculty systems, student success, technology, culture, and organizational design converged in one leadership environment. Working alongside the board, administration, faculty, and staff, the institution was turned around within two years, with a six-year WSCUC reaffirmation and five commendations, its first shared governance structure, fully online degrees, and the Pacifica Promise. The experience tested a larger question: could principles first discovered through personal transformation hold at the scale of an institution? They could. The work had become a way of understanding how people, organizations, and systems transform together.

Chapter VII2026
Artificial intelligence and accelerating social, economic, and workforce change are redefining how organizations work, learn, lead, and create value.
What began as inquiry has become an ecosystem: one system expressed through three interconnected vehicles. The Thread, LLC brings organizational and talent design, development, and transformation to institutions. The Thread Movement, fiscally sponsored by the Santa Barbara Foundation, expands access through initiatives including W.A.I.T.™ and FutureWoven™. The Thread Institute builds the capability to practice, lead, and teach intentional transformation. With intellectual property being formalized, original curricula developed and copyrighted, more than 20 partnerships in development, and the Achieve Intentional Transformation podcast reaching thousands, the work is entering a new chapter. The organizational challenge
Pacifica Graduate Institute operated two campuses: the Ladera Lane campus in Santa Barbara, which it owns, and the Lambert Road campus in Carpinteria, which it leases. In March 2021, before Dr. Mattison’s appointment, the institution’s accreditor required a facilities master plan for long-term sustainability, including “determining the necessity of the Lambert campus considering strategic priorities.” For a small graduate institution, carrying a leased campus alongside an owned one ties up resources the mission needs elsewhere. The question had stayed open while other pressures mounted.
How the work was led
Rather than decide from the executive suite, the administration commissioned a Campus Utilization Study in 2023. A committee of faculty, staff, and administration representatives led it with external consultants, examining how the two campuses were actually used. The findings informed the Board of Trustees’ long-range planning. In January 2025, the Board announced that Pacifica would not renew the Lambert lease and would consolidate at the campus it owns, and a Campus Consolidation Committee of administration, faculty, and staff representatives was formed to oversee the transition.

A 2023 Campus Utilization Study was led by a committee of faculty, staff, and administration representatives with external consultants. The Board’s decision letter is dated January 28, 2025.
After the initiating leader’s tenure
The consolidation is being carried out by the institution after Dr. Mattison’s tenure. Pacifica reports that the Lambert lease expires in April 2027, and its July 2026 update says all operations and on-campus programs will move to Ladera by the winter 2027 quarter, later than the fall 2026 start first announced. WSCUC approval of the main-campus relocation has not been independently verified: as of October 2026, WSCUC’s public record still lists Lambert as the main campus. The long-term financial outcome is not yet independently verified.
Pacifica’s institutional reporting shows net assets of about $5.7 million in 2021 and $8.8 million in 2024, a 2021–2024 trend rather than growth within a two-year period. A proposed $10 million fundraising strategy was set as a campaign objective; it is a goal, not funds raised.

The institution completed a three-year recertification with the U.S. Department of Education, approved for the next five years, and a $20,000 contribution brought the Pacifica Promise Program to $27,000.

Pacifica Extension and International Studies is the institution’s continuing-education arm, offering graduate certificates, microcredentials, continuing-education series, a membership program, and conferences, live online and on campus. In December 2024, it was placed under a new Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Lifelong Learning. Its financial contribution has not been independently verified.

The Pacifica SOUL Promise is a ten-year program to make depth psychological education, research, and care accessible on the Central Coast, with scholarships for up to 1,500 individuals in low-income communities and five initiatives, including a planned community clinic at the Ladera campus. Donations are received through the Santa Barbara Foundation. The participant numbers are program goals, separate from the fundraising objective above.

The strategic question. How can we connect academic relevance, enrollment, student services, technology, affordability, and educational outcomes?
The organizational challenge
Students move through one institution: admission, enrollment, financial aid, coursework, dissertation, and licensure. At Pacifica, as at many small graduate schools, the offices that support that journey had grown up separately. The first-100-days listening tour named learner experience and success as one of six institutional themes, and the 2021 accreditation letter had already asked for stronger support infrastructure for hybrid and online learners.
How the work was led
The administration made the learner journey an institutional priority, “Evolve learner experience and success,” one of six goal areas set in the Winter 2023 report. Enrollment and student services were brought into closer coordination, a structure formalized as the Office of Strategic Enrollment and Student Success in the December 2024 leadership redesign. Faculty and dissertation support were strengthened through a partnership with the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity.

Pacifica launched two fully online degree programs, the first in its nearly 50-year history: an online track of the M.A./Ph.D. in Jungian and Archetypal Studies and a new M.A./Ph.D. in Psychology, Religion, and Consciousness. The institution reported that WSCUC approved these efforts.

Pacifica renewed its membership in the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity; 85 community members joined, 52 of them students. The Dissertation Office ran a 12-week Dissertation Success Curriculum pilot with 37 students, and research with human participants moved to external IRB review through Cottage Health in March 2024.

What leaders tell us
The strategic question. How can we restore effective governance, institutional confidence, academic continuity, and accountability while confronting difficult organizational patterns?
The organizational challenge
In 2021, Pacifica’s accreditor asked the institution to examine faculty workload, equitable compensation, class size, and academic support against external benchmarks, and to strengthen shared governance. Faculty had set out their concerns in omnibus resolutions. By August 2022 the strain was public: the Santa Barbara Independent reported student protests over faculty dismissals, a faculty vote of no confidence in the provost, and complaints filed with the accreditor and the state. Dr. Mattison took office weeks later, in October 2022. In January 2023, the accreditor’s interim review asked the institution to “continue to urgently make progress on unresolved faculty concerns.”
How the work was led
The administration treated the grievances as a design problem, not a communications problem. The Winter 2023 report committed to “redesign the Office of the Provost through the implementation of key Omnibus Resolutions,” appointed an interim provost, and engaged the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity and Stevens Strategy. The institution then completed its first Faculty and Staff Compensation and Workload Study, adopted a faculty rank and promotion policy, and put in place its first shared governance structure, with a Shared Governance Statement and a decision matrix defining the roles of the Board, executive leadership, faculty, staff, and students. In December 2024, a faculty member joined the Executive Leadership Team for the first time.

The Board credited “Completing the first ever, Faculty and Staff Compensation and Workload Study” and “Executing our first Shared Governance Structure,” and “unanimously and wholeheartedly endorses President Mattison.”

Pacifica describes shared governance across the Board, executive leadership, faculty, staff, and students, with a decision matrix being finalized.
A $725,000 wage investment, documented in the 2022 Faculty Omnibus Resolutions Progress Report of July 22, 2024. The reporting period will be stated once the document is approved for publication.
What remained unfinished
The work was not finished. WSCUC reaffirmed accreditation for six years without a sanction, and required a progress report by November 1, 2025, on approving and implementing the faculty governance policy and structure and on revising the faculty handbook and evaluation procedures, with a special visit in fall 2027.
After the initiating leader’s tenure
Implementation of the faculty governance policy and handbook continues under the institution. Long-term outcome not yet independently verified.
Dr. Mattison took office in October 2022, weeks after faculty dismissals, student protests, and a no-confidence vote in the provost were reported publicly. An interim provost was appointed, and residential sessions returned to full on-campus attendance.

The 2021 Commission letter required responses in six areas, without imposing a sanction. The January 2023 interim review commended progress on strategic planning and on diversity, equity, and inclusion. In February 2025, WSCUC reaffirmed accreditation for six years, with a progress report due November 2025 and a special visit in fall 2027.

The Board of Trustees publicly and unanimously endorsed the president’s work. Monthly video updates to the community drew more than 500 views. In 2025, the accreditor still asked for consistent communication and effective processes during change, a reminder that trust is maintained, not declared.

What leaders tell us
The strategic question. How can we identify recurring organizational patterns, align people and priorities, redesign decision processes, develop leadership capacity, and improve execution?
The organizational challenge
After its founder era, Pacifica had committed people, an existing five-year plan, and many priorities, but no shared direction that the whole institution recognized. Listening sessions surfaced “a mix of passion and frustration around living our values,” and the observation that “we do not have research priorities.” The accreditor had asked for a strategic plan tied to mission, metrics, budget, and implementation.
How the work was led
The work began with listening. In the first 100 days, the administration met more than 500 people in over 30 listening sessions and 8 community events, guided by a simple principle: “People will champion what they help to create.” Six goal areas emerged. A four-stage strategic planning process with the consulting firm McIntyre-St.Clair followed: more than 25 documents reviewed, more than 70 interviews and focus groups, more than 35 steering committee participants, and 632 survey responses analyzed. The Board approved the plan, Onward Together 2030, in November 2023, with 4 goals and 32 strategies.

Adopting a plan is not the same as completing it. In 2025, the accreditor asked the institution to set priorities, timelines, and action plans for its many in-progress projects, and to report Board approval of the strategic plan, values statement, and revised bylaws by November 2025.
After the initiating leader’s tenure
The plan runs to 2030 and its long-term objectives are carried by the institution. Progress against them is not yet independently verified.
An Office of People, Culture, and Belonging was established in the December 2024 leadership redesign, and accreditors commended a review of staff compensation by position that adjusted pay to market averages. The accreditor also asked for a belonging action plan and action on the 2024 employee climate survey.

Pacifica adopted Jenzabar One, a student information system that unifies student information, financial aid, and institutional operations on one platform, with rollout continuing into 2026. The institution also set a goal to digitize all grade and attendance reporting for the fall 2024 quarter.

The strategic question. How do we connect our institutional capabilities with new audiences, partners, funding, and measurable public contribution?
The organizational challenge
Pacifica’s scholarship in depth psychology was respected, but academic programs, public programs, and outreach reached their audiences separately. The listening tour named brand identity and community and global partnerships among the institution’s six themes.
How the work was led
Journey Week, held September 27 to October 1, 2023, brought programming that usually ran on separate calendars into one shared institutional event: a Wellness Day, the BEAM Career Fair, and a weekend conference. Featured speakers included Dr. Thema Bryant and Dr. Jaiya John. The week had a measurable aim set in advance: a target for prospective-student applications.

Pacifica’s Alumni Connections program continues, organized around four pillars (Connect, Cultivate, Celebrate, Contribute), with monthly Wisdom Well gatherings, Careers in Depth sessions, and the Abakanowicz Community Praxis Fellowship. Reimagined the County Employees’ University as a regional engine for workforce development, partnering with California State University, Northridge, a WSCUC-accredited university, to give County employees a pathway to undergraduate and graduate degrees, and connecting 23 departments to shared digital learning.
Launched Passport to Public Service with Santa Barbara City College through Adult Education Block Grant funding: monthly workshops that prepare residents to apply for, enter, and advance in County careers. The first workshop drew about 100 applicants.
Developed the JOIN Equity Framework, a shared, County-wide framework for workforce equity that departments could apply together.

About Dr. Leonie H. Mattison →Each statement is rated on a five-point scale from strongly disagree to strongly agree. Dimension scores are combined into an overall coherence score and a dimension profile, and the lowest-scoring dimension points to the practice where work should begin.
The free snapshot uses one statement per dimension, taken word for word from the full 18, so the two can be compared. It shows a direction; the full Index, available by invitation, gives a reliable dimension profile.
The Index reflects the perspective of the person completing it. It is a starting point for conversation, not a full institutional audit. That is what the Coherence Diagnostic provides.
Individual responses are stored securely and never shared. Responses may be used, anonymized and in aggregate, to advance research on institutional coherence. No individual or institution is ever identified, and no group smaller than five is ever reported.

Every person, team, organization, and community carries a history: experiences that have shaped us, relationships that influence us, and ways of thinking and working that have become familiar. Some help us move forward. Others may be making it harder to reach the outcomes we want.
What if understanding what has shaped us could help us become more intentional about what we create next?
When something isn’t working, we often begin by asking what needs to change. But before we decide what to do differently, there may be something important to understand.
The purpose isn’t to tell you who you are or what is wrong. It’s to help you see more clearly what may be shaping your experience and what you can choose to do next.
THE THREAD Assessments invite individuals, teams, organizations, and communities to look more closely at what they are experiencing, recognize the patterns influencing their responses, and explore pathways toward meaningful outcomes.
You may be facing a decision, navigating a transition, feeling stuck in a familiar situation, or simply wondering why something in your life keeps unfolding the same way.

A team can share a goal and still experience the work very differently. People bring different experiences, expectations, strengths, and ways of responding, and over time those differences can give rise to patterns that nobody intended.
THE THREAD Team Assessment is being developed to help teams explore how they communicate, make decisions, build trust, navigate uncertainty, and work toward shared outcomes, making room for conversations that are often difficult to begin.

An organization may have a compelling mission, committed people, and a thoughtful strategy, yet still struggle to achieve the outcomes it seeks. Sometimes the challenge lies in the connections between people, decisions, structures, processes, systems, and technology.
THE THREAD Organizational Assessment is being developed to help leaders examine those connections, understand what may be supporting or limiting progress, and identify opportunities for intentional transformation, considering the organization as a whole.
Areas of inquiry may include culture, leadership, strategy, shared understanding, decision-making, systems, technology, and the ability to translate priorities into meaningful action.

Communities carry knowledge that cannot always be captured in reports, statistics, or plans: stories of what has been tried, what has been lost, what people value, and what they hope can become possible.
THE THREAD Community Assessment is being developed to bring lived experience, community strengths, needs, relationships, and local knowledge into conversations about shared priorities and future action.
Because a community’s future should not be imagined without the people who will live it.

Each assessment experience is designed around the same underlying approach, adapted to the people and questions involved.
Begin with the moment, challenge, opportunity, or desired outcome that matters to you.
What is changing? What feels unresolved? What deserves greater attention?
Explore the patterns, experiences, relationships, assumptions, and ways of working that influence what happens.
What is helping? What may need to be reconsidered? What have we not yet noticed?
Draw on relevant T.H.R.E.A.D. practices to explore possibilities, identify a meaningful next action, and consider what progress could look like.
The aim is not to change everything at once. It is to begin with greater understanding and intention.
These six interconnected practices form THE T.H.R.E.A.D. System™. They invite us to look beyond the immediate situation, learn from experience, reconsider familiar patterns, draw on relationships, explore different ways forward, and make choices that honor the larger whole.
They are not labels for people or fixed stages everyone must follow. They are practices we can return to as our lives, teams, organizations, and communities evolve.

THE THREAD assessments are designed for reflection, developmental learning, and collaborative inquiry. They are not intended for clinical diagnosis, employee selection, or psychological evaluation. The individual Check-In is not currently a validated psychometric instrument. Team, organizational, and community experiences may use different methods, including facilitated dialogue and contextual needs assessment, depending on their purpose and development stage.

Privacy noticeThis notice explains what information THE THREAD collects through this website and how it is used.
When you submit a form or complete the Leadership Self-Reflection or the Institutional Coherence Index, we collect only what you provide: your name, email, title, organization, country, and your answers. Nothing more. The THREAD Check-In™ collects less, as described below.
Starting is open. You can read the introduction and complete the five opening reflections without giving us any contact information.
What we collect, and when. After you write your reflection, choose a name for your moment, and confirm the reflection, the Check-In asks for your first name and email address. Both are required to continue to the practice questions and your THREAD Profile. When you select Continue, we receive four things: your first name, your email address, whether you checked the optional mailing-list box, and a note that the information came from the Check-In.
Why we ask. Your first name personalizes your experience on screen and in your PDF. We use your email address to keep a record of who has taken the Check-In during this pilot, and to contact you only about the Check-In itself, for example if we find an error that affects results. We do not use it to send you your results: your complete THREAD Profile appears on screen, and you can download it as a PDF.
What we do not receive. Your written reflections, the areas of life and values you select, the name you give your moment, your answers to the practice questions, your practice profile, and the pattern, practice, and exercise suggested to you are created in your browser and are not sent to us. Your first name and email are not sent together with any of them. No AI service is used to create your results.
Marketing is a separate choice. Giving your email to continue the Check-In does not subscribe you to anything. You join our mailing list only if you check the box, which is never checked for you, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
What stays on your device. While you work, your answers, including the first name and email you enter, are held in your browser for that tab only. They are removed when you close the tab or select “Clear my answers.” If you choose “Keep it on this device,” a short summary (your moment’s name, the date, your first name, your practice choices, the suggested pattern and exercise, your focus, and what you hope for, but not your full reflections) is saved in that browser so you can return to it later. Remove it with “Remove from this device” on the Check-In page or by clearing your browser data. If you choose “Download my moment file,” the same summary is saved as a file on your device. Your PDF is created on your device and is not sent to us.
Clearing your browser does not delete what you sent us. “Clear my answers” and clearing your browser data remove information from your device only. To delete the first name and email you gave us, email leoniemattison@thethreadllc.com.
Optional feedback. At the end, you may send feedback. Before anything is sent, the Check-In shows exactly what will be sent: your answers to the feedback questions, any note you write, and general information about your results, such as your perspective, the practice and exercise suggested, and whether you confirmed the reflection. Feedback does not include your name, email, or reflections, and it is sent only if you check the consent box.
Who processes it. Your first name, email, mailing-list choice, and any feedback are sent through a Google Apps Script form handler and stored in Google Sheets, a Google service. The Check-In page loads no analytics, advertising, or AI services. Like all websites, our hosting provider, Bluehost, receives standard technical information such as your IP address and browser type when you load a page.
To create and send your report, to respond to your inquiry or follow up if you ask us to, and, in anonymized form, to advance research on institutional coherence. If you opt in, we also share occasional insights. We never sell your information, and we share it only with the service providers named in this notice, who store or deliver it for us.
Securely in Google tools, including Google Sheets, accessible only to Dr. Leonie H. Mattison and associates who have signed a confidentiality agreement. A notification of each submission is sent to our team, and assessment reports are emailed to the address you provide.
With your consent, responses may be combined with others, with names, emails, and organizations removed, to study patterns across institutions. Research is done on a separate, de-identified copy of the data. No individual or institution is ever identified in anything we publish, and we never report results for groups smaller than five.
In a Coherence Diagnostic, individual responses are never shared with your employer. The institution receives only combined results, and no group smaller than five is reported separately.
Identifiable information is deleted or anonymized after three years. This includes the first name and email given in The THREAD Check-In™. Check-In feedback does not include your name or email.
Retake the Index over time to compare how your perception of institutional coherence is shifting and identify questions worth examining more deeply. You can take it once every 24 hours. Each attempt is saved separately. If you complete the full Index after your snapshot, it is added to the same record. The full Index is available by invitation, through a private link or access code.
Our forms use Google reCAPTCHA and automated checks to block spam and misuse, and we limit how many report emails any address can receive each day. The THREAD Check-In™ page does not load reCAPTCHA or any other third-party script. Use of reCAPTCHA is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
You can request a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, unsubscribe, or ask us to delete it at any time by emailing leoniemattison@thethreadllc.com. This includes the first name and email you gave in the Check-In. We will respond within 30 days.
